Bye-Bye Google Reader

Today is the last day you will be able to view the blogs you follow by Google Reader.  I follow LOTS of blogs and was so sad to hear that Reader was going away.  However, there are many replacements but you should make that change today so you don’t lose track of your favorite blogs.  My new reader is now Blog Lovin’.  It was super easy to transfer my blogs from google reader — only takes a few minutes!  I really like the reading format and they have an app!  Win-win!  So, go to blog lovin’ and switch your blogs today.  Sign up and then click on the arrow next to the heart and select import  from google reader.  You can also click on the blog lovin’ logo on my blog to follow my blog or follow via email.

The Daily Deal and New Product (Safety Tips Posters)

These are so much fun!  Our 3rd graders at school always hatch butterflies every year.  This year they laid eggs before they were released so there were lots of caterpillars.  My son brought home a jar with a few caterpillars and had so much fun setting up a good habitat and releasing them.  So, today’s deal features a good price on the butterfly garden which includes a certificate to send for larvae and food.  We made a DIY container for them at home – big plastic tub (I think it had cheese puffs or animal cookies in it at one time) covered with a piece of material from a laundry bag (for washing delicates).  This is only helpful if you have your own caterpillars or larvae.  Otherwise, you’ll be paying about $15 for 3 larvae to be shipped.  That’s why these kits are such a great deal!
I FINALLY finished my safety posters and listed them on TPT!  This is a set of posters with tips for
*water safety
*fire safety
*road safety
*personal safety
These are some really great things that all kids should know.  It makes a great teaching tool as you teach about safety and helps to make sure you teach and review safety tips for a variety of situations.  They also make a great wall display or bulletin board.  They are 50% off for the first 24 hours.  This applies to all of my new products at TPT so make sure you follow my store so you know when new items are posted.

While you’re there check out my popular Healthy Habits Posters.  These have been posted in classrooms and lunchrooms and I’ve received really good feedback.
Our “summer” weather here has been non-existent lately.  My son told me today that he is forgetting what the sun looks like!  We usually have very sunny days here in the summer and very little rain.  We were awakened with a rain storm this morning.  Come on, summer!  I hope the weather is great in your little spot of the world! 🙂

The Daily Deal – Sandbox App

Do you want to restrict website access in your classroom?  This app looks like the perfect solution!  It allows you to enter the “approved” websites and blocks all the others.  I’m installing it on my 2 classroom iPads.  The best news: it’s currently free!  As always, prices are subject to change and often change quickly.  Click on the link to see if this deal is still available.  Happy surfing! 🙂

The Daily Deal

Whew!  I’m totally listing this late today.  By my watch it’s still the 11th!  Today’s deal features a great website that offers a free premium teacher account. lets you create slideshows, newsletters, certificates and lots more!  I’ve only used it to make slideshows for my classroom.  They turned out really nice and were easy to create and share.  The premium membership gives you access to many more designs than the free account, 100’s of music selections, no ads and many ways to share your creations.  Their FAQ page for teachers is a great place to start.  Now, go create!

We have a winner AND a daily deal!

Congratulations to Sara Bowling & All Things Teachery who are the 2 monthly winners for May!  You can each pick out any item from my TPT store for free.  Check your email for more details.  Want to be eligible for next month’s drawing?  Just following this blog via Google Friend Connect and you’re automatically entered!

The Daily Deal includes two of my favorite books!  The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare is one of my favorite YA novels.  It is a compelling read which includes history and life lessons.  It is currently only $1.99 for Kindle or Nook.**

The Splat book series is a big hit with my first graders!  This Kindle edition contains Kindle Text Pop-Up and so it won’t work on Kindle e-ink readers.  It requires Kindle Fire (or Fire HD), Kindle app for Windows 8, Kindle Android app or Kindle Cloud Reader.  It’s currently available at Amazon for $2.99.**

**Prices are subject to change at any time and often are raised quickly. If you want to get the deal you usually need to act quickly. Click on the link to see if the deal is still active.**
