Last year I used puzzle mat pieces like this to make a word wall. I put a letter on each piece. I’d show you a picture, but all my walls had to be cleared for painting. I used 27 pieces and made a 9×3 grid. I love how it added so much color to my wall. I put it at level for the kids to reach. I made some word cards out of cardstock and laminated them. They didn’t hold up well because the area gets high use. Do any of you have any ideas of what I can use for words that will hold up better? I’m doing a dot theme this year so I thought it would be cute to have the words on dots. Most things I’ve thought of are too small (poker chips) or too large (small plates). I thought about using jar lids and spray painting them. My friend reminded me that it will take forever to do that! I thought about slicing pool noodles, but I don’t want to have to write in a rainbow shape (plus, will sharpies write on noodles?). I’m loving this blogging stuff — the more I write, the more ideas I get! 🙂 I’m thinking more foam could be an obvious choice. The problem I was having with the cardstock was that the corners were getting bent. I don’t think that would happen with foam. I could use the thin fun foam. I wonder if my Cricut baby bug would cut it? Off to google…..looks like a crafter reported it working. I’ll let you know if it works for me.

I totally forgot about the die cut machine! I have never even used it!! That's a really good idea.
That's a great idea, but I do think it would be too small. I think part of the problem I had was that the pieces were attached with velcro. You REALLY had to pull to get them off! I'm going to try magnets this year.
I was trying to think of a simple, cute, durable, and econmical solution for you. As I looked online (as if I had nothing else to do) I found foam cutters where you could pick your size. Buying foam sheets and cutting your own might be cheaper. I also wondered if the die cut machine would cut foam. I might know someone who would be willing to work on this project at home for you over the last little bit of summer.
Thank YOU for hosting it! It was a lot of fun. I just started following your site. Have a great weekend! 🙂

Hi Heather! Thanks for following! I'm following your blog as well. Have a great weekend!
Wow! That is an amazing following for a new blog. I visited your blog and I can see why!! It looks amazing! In my super short browse, I saw lots of ideas and posts to read when I have a spare second! I'm your newest follower and can't wait to explore your blog! 🙂 Thanks for following mine. 🙂
Thanks for the ideas! It looks like I need to go shopping! I was thinking a larger circle (dot!) for the letter title (maybe 4″ or so) and smaller dots (2″?) for the words. Last year I just printed them out on cardstock and the letter was a large square and the words were just typical word cards. I forgot to mention that I add velcro to the back so the kids can take them to their seat. I'll let you know when I find something that works and I'll post pictures.
Creative Teaching Press sells circle cut outs that are maybe 6 inches in diameter. But for the letters S and T, you'd run out of room! (I used to teach first.) I always laminated my words and they were fine, but my Word Wall sounds higher up than yours. Grade Three is the Place for Me
I bet you could find foam circles at a craft store! Just found you through the blog hop (which I'm going to have to link up with now since I just started blogging in June) and am your newest follower!AmandaTeaching MaddenessCome join my 500 Follower Giveaway that ends tomorrow!
