I also discovered a really neat freebie about a way to manage pencils in your classroom – Winning the Pencil War. It was created by the Wise Owl Teacher. Apparently many others have discovered this since it has been downloaded over 97,000 times! I’ve started working on implementing this system for this year and can’t wait to get started. I love plans that help the kids to become more responsible. It makes it easier for everyone!

First day supplies because there is so much, and it has to be sorted. Some we keep, some we store, and others are pooled.
Keeping books organized is the most difficult for me. My read aloud books I keep in alphabetical order by title so I can easily locate them, but the kids' books are organized by reading levels, theme, etc. dbednarsk@yahoo.com
My library has always been hard to keep organized, but this year I'm going with baskets and labels with the hope that it will be much better!

crayons..they are always everywhere
The basic supplies are difficult to organize (pencils, crayons, glue sticks, etc.) for me.
My puzzles! No matter what I put them in, they always seem to end up missing pieces!
I find it very hard to organize things that I don't have a lot of such as pom poms, glitter glue, paint. They all just get jumbled together.
Handouts. Even When you are dealing with adults keeping the handouts in order can be a pain, if you need to reuse them.
All my games/center materials. Sometimes there are so many little pieces that get mixed up even though I know my kids are trying. I label everything and try my best, but I always seem to be going through things to reorganize.
Game pieces-especially from centers that I have copied, printed, laminated, cut out and put out. The pieces go missing and then I feel like I need to print out a new set or I will find a piece and I am not sure which game it goes to. It is a never ending battle.
Refiling papers. I'm a stacker. By December I have stacks of paper everywhere.
The paper stack I have for all the kids to use that don't have paper is the worst thing or organize. It never stays neat.

Storing puzzles. Many of the ones with large shapes or pegs just don't fit or stack. Pieces get lost and they seem hard for some students to put away. Its been driving me nuts all year!

I am terrible at organizing my posters!
I have a hard time keeping my guided reading area organized with all the books/manipulatives for different groups along with running record and guided reading lessons! I'm always a mess in the area of the room and can't ever find what I need!

Construction paper, it is so hard to keep it separated and organized. By the middle of the year I end up giving up on it. Hopefully I can figure something out this year. 🙂

Homework and scissors seem to be the bane of my existence. Homework has been notoriously hard to manage. I'm going to try out a new system this year. Scissors disappear into desks and are amazingly difficult to find when you need them.

Late homework. I tell them where to turn it in, but they still try to “sneak” it into the middle of the stack — and they end up putting the homework into the wrong pile! Then I get a letter from the parent that I lost their child's homework because they KNOW it was turned in… Funny, I didn't see them in my classroom when it was supposedly “turned in”…much more like “snuk in!”. Ha ha ha!
